Travel: Chinese theatrical performance

Went to 3 different shows while in China and thoroughly enjoyed it. The costumes and props were pretty spectacular. Still managed to take more than a handful of shots even though I was seated almost right behind the auditorium. Was actually considering between the 85mm or 70-200mm for the holiday trip. I decided to travel as light as I could and went with the prime lens. All shots were taken straight out of camera as jpeg.

Low light photography

Went to the opening event of a church convention on Good Friday. Overall a great experience and the hall was filled with passionate and exciting people. Light source came from the stage and it was dynamic. General camera settings was on aperture priority, auto white balance, and spot metering. Set a limit for high ISO and low shutter speed to freeze action. The camera did pretty well in auto exposure and focusing was snappy with the 85mm f1.4.

One of my favourite and most challenging person to shoot!

Taken at 1/250s to freeze action.

Thanks to the PA and visuals team for a great production.

It's really hot on stage under a gazillion spotlight + passion!

This really sums up the experience everyone had that night.

Travel: Shanghai and Beijing

Went on a holiday trip to China in February during Chinese New Year. Winter was coming to an end but still had the chance to see some snow at the outskirts of Shanghai. I wanted to travel light and took with me the 17-35mmm f2.8 and 85mm f1.4. The zoom lens was used the most while the 85mm was used for theater performances. Clicking the photos below will take you to the gallery.

Shanghai City still developing.

West Lake, Hangzhou.

West Lake, Hangzhou. You can imagine how hard it was to take a photo without someone interfering.

Typical home by a small canal at Suzhou.

The woman was actually singing and piloting the little boat.

The National Grand Theater in Beijing. Would have really loved to take a photo of this masterpiece during sunset!

Saw a ray of light coming through the ceiling of this little building at the The Forbidden City, Beijing.

The Great Wall of China, Beijing.

Will post photos of chinese theatrical performances in the next couple of days.

JONATHAN + ANN TIEN

Had the opportunity to do an engagement shoot for two wonderful friends of mine back in 2009. For every journey there's always a first step and this was my first. It was an awesome time though there were a few moments of 'what to do next' but I guess that's the fun part which allows one to be creative and spontaneous. Many thanks for the patience and encouragement.

New venture

Thanks for visiting this site. I'm still working on a couple of refinement if anything weird happens.
